WMHT Welcomes Alexis Young, Multimedia Journalist and Engaging Producer

A recent graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Young will begin reporting and producing for New York NOW’s WMHT program beginning Aug. 8.

For immediate release – Monday, August 8, 2022 – TROY, NEW YORK >> WMHT Public Media (PBS-Public Broadcasting Service) announces new media journalist and engagement producer, Alexis Young, starting full-time at the Rensselaer Tech site Park from WMHT this week. Young has experience in in-depth reporting, podcasting and documentary filmmaking. She will bring her journalistic background to WMHT’s Emmy® Award-winning public affairs show, New York NOW, while creating other cross-platform media for WMHT’s broadcast and digital content.

Originally from Georgia, Young recently lived in Phoenix, Arizona, where she earned a master’s degree in mass communication from Arizona State University. His recent experience includes: being an investigative journalist at the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism; founder, host and engineer of the podcast A Pinch of Perspective; and working at Cronkite News in Arizona as a production engineer, television graphics specialist, broadcast and audio journalist, and video editor.

“The multimedia role at WMHT provides an opportunity to engage in community and political reporting. The first gives me a chance to practice the type of journalism for which I entered the field and the second will allow me to progress in a niche that I know less about. I’m really looking forward to using all the tools that political reporting equips a journalist to increase the reach of stories and voices within surrounding communities,” said Young, whose responsibilities at the region-based public media station of the capital will include on-site production, digital creation and post-production work for broadcast and digital distribution.

Young joins the talented New York NOW team, which was just nominated for the 65th Annual New York Emmy ® Awards for an August 6, 2021 episode titled “Cuomo’s Harassment Conundrum, AG’s Report, Senator Leader Stewart Cousins.”

“We’re excited to continue to grow the New York NOW team to provide our viewers with the in-depth information and analysis they depend on across the Empire State,” said Dan Clark, New York NOW’s editor. “I know Alexis will thrive at the State Capitol and throughout New York, and we’re thrilled to have him.

Young started at WMHT today, Monday August 8th.
