Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed gratitude to the central government, especially the Ministry of Railways, for the introduction of Vistadome services for Arunachal Pradesh.

He said the Northeast was already a popular destination for tourists from across the country and around the world. “Now, these state-of-the-art Vistadome coaches will add to the attraction and tourist attendance will increase, which in turn will boost the state’s economy,” Khandu observed.

He informed the Ministry of Health that the ongoing investigations are at various stages on several new roads connecting Arunachal, which are from Murkongselek to Pasighat which will continue to Tezu-Rupai-Lekhapani connecting Marherita and Deomali, the strategic Misamari to Tawang and the one connecting the north of Lakhimpur with Silapathar to Bame.

“Once these roads are completed and made operational, Arunachal Pradesh will experience a dramatic shift in terms of transportation,” Khandu said.

He informed that the agri-horti farmers in Arunachal Pradesh are unable to produce surplus due to lack of markets, which is a direct consequence of the transport bottleneck. He expressed hope that once rail connectivity reaches the interior of the state, the rural economy will boom.

Taking advantage of the opportune moment of the presence of the railways MoS as well as senior ministry officials, Khandu requested the conversion of the existing Naharlagun-New Delhi rail service to the Rajdhani Express.

“This is the request of the people of Arunachal Pradesh, not particularly mine,” he said.

Khandu also asked the railways to speed up construction of the Borum Bridge that will connect Borum to Naharlagun. He estimated that the construction of the 4-lane road will start soon in Naharlagun and Nirjuli and that the said bridge will greatly help to reduce congestion during this period.
