For its annual end of year sale, Salcedo Auctions showcases the best of the Filipino art scene with its showcase of masterpieces by distinct national artists at the “Under The Tree: The Wish List”.

Taking place on November 27, 2021, the auction is expected to feature a rich, diverse and carefully curated lineup, including works by national artists BenCab, Fernando Amorsolo, Victorio Edades, J. Elizalde Navarro, Arturo Luz and Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, as well as key pieces by leading modernists Romulo Olazo, Juvenal Sansó, Romeo Tabuena, Lao Lianben and Nena Saguil.

Key highlights include Edades’ lovely 1930s oil on canvas of an unidentified young woman, a large and elegant BenCab monochromatic acrylic painting on canvas depicting two of Master Sabel’s iconic muses, and a rare work by the Barcelona period of 1961 by Alcuaz titled “The Night in Marantz”, a surreal landscape that shows the strong influence of his Spanish abstract contemporaries Saura and Tapies. As in all major Filipino collectibles sales, antique wooden furniture hard and exquisitely crafted ecclesiastical pieces are on offer, such as a pair of 19th century Ilocos four-column comodas, a pair of 18th century molave altar / retablo columns, as well as an imposing minor retablo. Sure to grab the attention of history buffs, this is the only known image that shows Antonio Luna with the supposed object of his admiration, mestizo Nellie Boustead.

No holiday sale is ever complete without a valuable timepiece, which is why Salcedo Private View, the private sale arm of the auction house, is simultaneously putting up “Under the Tree: The Watch List”, which showcases coveted examples of fine watchmaking from top brands such as Patek Philippe, Rolex and IWC.

As 2021 draws to a close, Salcedo Auctions expresses its gratitude for the audience’s unwavering support and continued growth in giving back to the spirit of the Season through its collaboration with social enterprise Bid for the Future (BFF), which working with Lamana PH will donate Ishinomaki stools painted by some of the country’s leading contemporary visual artists to empower local communities and protect the environment through their support for conservation efforts at Masungi Georeserve.

“Under the Tree: The Watch List” takes place on Saturday, November 27, 2021, simultaneously at 2 p.m. live in the NEX Tower auction room in Salcedo and online via salcedoauctions.com. An online auction by the subsidiary of the auction house Gavel & Block titled “Holiday” featuring a wide selection of decorative art and furniture, as well as ephemeral and collectibles will also be held on the same day from 11h.
