GDRN, WWII Pop Art and a New Dance Show

0

It’s so easy to stay home on a rainy day like these. While a glass of wine and a good book sounds great, The Grapevine Crew is here for you if you decide to don that raincoat and face the elements to bring some culture to your night out.

The Pop Queen Of Iceland is back and is holding her court in Háskólabíó. GDRN broke through in 2018 with its monster hit “Hvað Ef”, and has since won more or less every Icelandic music award while simultaneously making her dramatic debut on the Netflix show, “Katla”. She released her last album in February 2020, but COVID-19 prevented a good night out. So don’t hesitate to go crazy!

In her latest exhibition “Wild About You”, pop artist Tinna Royal offers a contemporary vision of romantic relationships and consumerism through the prism of WWII comics. The Akranes-based artist has spent years scouring the public domain for these images that often highlight romance, heroism, and gender roles, subjects that might be considered outdated today. His modern perspective on what underlies these images is no doubt worth a trip to the MUTT gallery.

Get your daily dose of culture by attending the premiere of this new dance performance. The play deconstructs Shakespeare’s well-known play while offering something for everyone by fusing contemporary dance, visual arts and spectacular music by Prokofiev. The production is directed by Erna Ómarsdóttir and Halla Ólafsdóttir, and is performed by the Iceland Dance Company. If you can’t make it to the Prime Minister, don’t worry! There are also shows on October 6 and 17.
